Question 1044068: The cost of 8 kg of onions is rs-46.The cost of 10.kg of potatoes and 5 kg of onions is rs-35.Find the price of potato per kg and onion per kg.Find the solution of equation??
I have tried this question I take
8x+10y=46…………(1)
10x+5y=36…………(2)
(2)×2 gives 20x+10y=70
(3)-1 gives 12x=24;x=2.How is second equation can multiply with 2?
I got y=3 ..How to get the answer step by step?Is my answer is right? Found 2 solutions by Fombitz, rothauserc:Answer by Fombitz(32388) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! To check your answer, plug your solution into your initial equations.
.
.
How did you get your first equation?
Also, the right hand side of the second equation should be 35.
x-cost of 1 kg of potatoes
y-cost of 1 kg of onions
The cost of 8 kg of onions is rs-46.
1.
The cost of 10 kg of potatoes and 5 kg of onions is rs-35
2.
Divide both side by 5.
From eq. 1,
So then substituting,
So then verifying using eq. 2,
True, so you have a good solution.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 8kg of onions is 46rs, then
:
8/46 = 1 / x
:
cross multiply the fractions
:
8x = 46
:
x = 5.75
:
*************************
1 kg of onions is rs-5.75
*************************
:
let y be cost of 1kg of potatoes, then
:
10y + 5(5.75) = 35
:
10y + 28.75 = 35
:
10y = 6.25
:
y = 0.625rs per kg
:
****************************
1 kg of potatoes is rs-0.625
1 kg of onions is rs-5.75
