Question 1002040: I have a composite shape that forms two squares, the length and the width for both squares is 6 ft. So the area for both squares is 36 ft square. Then I have two rectangles one with a length of 6 feet and a width of 15 all the way down one side. The second rectangle has a length of 9 feet and a width of 12 feet. I thought in order to find the area of a composite figure I add up all the areas. But the book is somehow getting 18 ft as one of the side lengths thus leading to a different answer. How or why is this happening? is it a typing error?
