Question 729534: Please let know if I solved this problem correctly. If I did not solve the problem correctly, will you please provide me with the correct formula to solve the problem. The inside of a cylindrical steel drum, including the top and bottom, is to be painted with rust-inhibiting paint. The inside diameter of the drum is 1.8 feet, and the height is 2.6 feet. What is the total surface area to be painted? Use 3.14 for pi.
S= 2*(pi)*rh+2*(pi)*r^2
S= {2*(pi)*0.9*(2.6)}+(2*(pi)*0.9^2)
S= (2*(pi)*2.34)+(2*(pi)*0.81)
S= 4.68*(pi)+1.62*(pi)
S= 14.6952+5.0868
S= 19.782
S= 19.8 ft^2

Question 730194: Hello, I was wondering if I could have some help solving this question, thanks:
The link to the diagram of the question is here: http://puu.sh/2nCh3
The shape in this question is a parallelepiped.
1. Find the area of the parallelogram OAFE.
for this i found the cross product to be:
{4i + 3j - 15k}
and so the area to be : {15.8u^2}
however im not sure whether the vectors should of been {OA=3i} and {0E=0i+5J+1k} instead of {AO=-3i}.
I also tried to see whether the vectors are perpendicular but found that the cross product of AO is -12 while for OE is 0. Shouldn't they both be zero to be perpindicular and if so have i done this wrong or are they not perpendicular.
2.Find the area of triangle OAF.
for this i know to use the rule {{1/2}*|a*b|} which would give the area OAF is {7.9u^2} but im not sure.
3. Find a unit vector that is perpendicular to the face OABC.
4. Find the volume of the parallelepiped.
i know the rule is {|a|*|b|*|c|*sinx*cosx} and then you find the cross product and so the answer from question 1 is used {4i + 3j - 15k} .
Is the dot product used for that resultant vector with the OC??
Thank you for having a look at the question and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Question 733991: Hello! Trying to calculate the total surface area of 2 semi-circles. Semicircle #1 is the left half of a semicircle with a radius of 10 feet. Semicircle #2 is the right half of a semicircle with a radius of 5 feet. The 2nd semicircle is positioned on the right side of the first one, at the bottom of the first semicircle. The height is 6 feet. We calculated the lateral surface area and added 2 areas of the base. We're pretty sure we have the bases figured out but are having trouble with the lateral surface area part. We were using the formual Lateral Surface Area = perimeter x height and Total Surface Area formula of LA (lateral surface area) + 2 areas of the base. For perimeter of the semicircles, we used the formula pi*diameter/2. The answer is supposed to be 735.1 sq ft but we can only get to 675.1 sq ft and can't find the other 60 sq ft. Thanks!!!!!
