Hi there,
Say you have a square that measures
40m x 40m
Area = 1600m^2
If you increase one pair of sides by 40%
they will equal 56m
The other pair of sides increased by
30% will equal 52m
New area = 56 x 52 = 2912m^2
2912m^2 - 1600m^2
= 1312m^2
=1312m^2/1600m^2 x 100
= 82%
Hope this helps:-)

The opposite pairs of sides of a square are increased by 40% and 30% respectively. The area of the resulting rectangle exceeds the area of square by?
---------
1.3*1.4 = 1.82
1.82 times the area
--> 82% increase
