2L + 2w = 26

 L + w = 13  and L = %2813-w%29

 A = Lw

 (13-w)w = 36ft^2

   w^2 - 13w + 36 = 0

  (w-9)(w-4) = 0 

   (w-9) = 0, w = 9 and L = 4

0r (w-4) = 0, w = 4 and L = 9

Dimensions are 4ft by 9ft
