Question 744796: Three sides of a trapezoid are each 8 cm long. How long is the 4th side when the area of the trapezoid has the greatest value?
here is the choices, 16 cm, 12 cm, 10 cm, 14 cm
Is the problem missing another given information? I try to solved it using two different formula in solving area of trapezoid but no good.

Ok, i finally get the answer to my question. the answer is 16 cm. Im running out of time in writing my solution, so may be next time i will show it. By the way i break the trapezoid into to 2 right triangles and 1 rectangle and add its areas, then i came up with this equation sqrt%28-x%5E4-16x%5E3%2B1024x%2B4096%29 then to get the maximum area, derive with respect to x and get the roots of x, the answer is 4 and -8 so the 4th sides is 2x%2B8=16
