You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Surface area is the area of the top and bottom base (48 + 48 = 96 square feet) plus the surface area of the cylinder's body (the lateral area).

First make sure all units are the same. Convert 12 yards into 36 feet.

The lateral area of a cylinder is the circumference of the base x the height.

Circumference of the base is the circumference of a circle which is 2 * pi * r

Find radius using the formula for area A+=+48+=+pi%2Ar%5E2

Solve for r: 48%2Fpi+=+r%5E2 and sqrt%2848%2Fpi%29+=+r

So the lateral area is 2%2Api%2Asqrt%2848%2Fpi%29+%2A+36 = approximately 884.1543

And the surface area is 96+%2B+2%2Api%2Asqrt%2848%2Fpi%29+%2A+36 = appox. 980.154
