You can put this solution on YOUR website! A retangular solid is a box and a box
has a top, a bottom, and 4 sides.
If you lay this box flat (not on end)
The bottom is 3x4 and the top is also 3x4
As for the sides, 2 of them are 3x4
and 2 of them are 3x3, so adding up,
3x4 + 3x4 + 3x4 + 3x4 + 3x3 + 3x3
4(3x4) + 2(3x3)
4x12 + 2x9
48 + 18 = 66 ft2
To put answer in square inches,
1 ft2 = (1 ft)(1 ft)
(1 ft)(1ft) = (12 in)(12 in)
(12 in)(12 in) = 144 in2
(66 ft2)(144 in2/ft2) = 9504 in2 answer
