So the difference between these is
x%5E2+-+%28x%5E2+-6x+%2B+9%29+=+x%5E2+-+x%5E2+%2B+6x+-+9+=+6x+-+9+

The area of the cardboard left after the hole is cut out is therefore 6x - 9
