here you can divide given shape into two rectangles: one will have the length L1=5ft and the width W1=8ft, and other on that has L2=5ft and the width W2=4ft
so, we will find their areas and just add them:
A1=L1%2AW1
A1=5ft%2A8ft
A1=40ft%5E2
A2=L2%2AW2
A2=5ft%2A4ft
A2=20ft%5E2
A=A1%2BA2
A=40ft%5E2%2B20ft%5E2
A=60ft%5E2
