You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a 9 inch candle burns at a rate of 1/3 inches per hour.
:
a. write an equation in slope intercept form of this situation.
let t = no. of hrs
f(t) = length of the candle in inches
f(t) = -1%2F3t + 9
:
b.how many hours will it take for the candle to be completely burned?
f(t) = 0 inches, so we have
-1%2F3t + 9 = 0
-1%2F3t = -9
Multiply both sides by -3
t = 27 hrs to be completely burned
:
c.how long will the candle be after burning for 6 hours?
t = 6
f(6) = -1%2F3(6) + 9
f(6) = -2 + 9
f(6) = 7 inches after 6 hrs
