You can use the equation 2w+2 for your length.
Since you are finding perimeter, you are going to add all four sides
of your rectangle:
(2w+2)+(2w+2)+w+w=34
Take away the parenthesis and
Then combine your like terms:
4w+4+2w=34
Then keep combining:
6w+4=34
Then simplify:
(subtract 4 from both sides)
6w=30
(divide by six on both sides)
w=5
After you have found your width (5) plug it into the eqation for
the length to get 2(5)+2. Simplify that: 12
The length is 12, and the width is 5
