Question 33490: A circular target with a radius of 5 centimeters has a circular bull's eye with a diameter of 2 centimeters. Darts are thrown and hit the target at random.
A)What is the probability that a dart will hit the bull's eye?
B)Estimate how many times a dart will hit the bull's eye if 100 darts are thrown and hit the target at random.
I found that the area of the entire target is 78.5 and the area of the bull's eye is 12.56 and I think that it may have to be put in a proportion but I am stumped and have no clue what to do. Could someone explain it to me. Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Good. If your area figures are correct the probability of
hitting the bullseye is 12.56/78.5=0.16
The expected value is np where n=100 and p=0.16
So the expected number of hits is 16 out of 100.
