: I have find the ratio of surface area to volum for each can - picture has a can, on the top it has a line half way across, measurement is 3.8 cm. Going down the can is 6 cm - I still do not grasp how to figure the ratio of survace area to volume for each. Can you please give me help on how to do this? Thank you soooo much! This question is from textbook MathThematics
You can put this solution on YOUR website! THE 3.8CM IS THE RADIUS OF THE TOP CIRCLE OF THE CAN THE 6CM IS THE HEIGHT OF THE CAN.
YOU NEED TO FIND THE AREA OF THE TOP OF THE CAN WHICH IS 3.14*(3.8)~2 OR
3.14*14.44 OR 45.34 SQ CM. THE CIRCUMFERENCE OR THE TOP IS 3.14*2*3.8 OR
23.864 CM.
MULTIPLYING THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TOP AND THE HEIGHT GIVES
23.864*6=143.184 CM~2. THIS PLUS 2 TIMES THE AREA OF THE TOP OR 2*45.34 OR
90.68 THUS THE TOTAL SURFACE IS 90.68+143.184 OR 233.864 CM~2.
THE VOLUME OF THE CAN IS THE TOP AREA TIMES THE HEIGHT OR
45.34*6=272.04 CUBIC CM.
RATIO OF SURFACE (233.864) TO VOLUME (272.04) IS 233.864/272.04 OR .8596676
