The surface area of a prism = 2 × area of base + perimeter of base × H

Impossible to tell. Are the 40 cubes stacked in a 1 by 4 by 10 cube prism (108 cube faces showing), or 2 by 2 by 10 (88 cube faces showing), or 2 by 4 by 5 (76 cube faces showing), or some other arrangement? Each cube has a face area of 25 square inches, so once you figure the number of cube faces that show on your prism, multiply by 25.
