First off we need to see there are 6 sides that will need to be calculated. Let's do the top and bottom first. 3 times 6 = 18 sq meters will give us the top so we double that for top and bottom. (36)
Now the sides. one side will be 2 times 3 = 6 and the other side will be the same so double this gives us 12 sq meters.
Now the other side is 2 times 6 = 12 and double this will give us 24 sq meters. OK let's add these all up for the closed box.
18 + 12 + 24 = 54 Sq meters. With the open top, you should be able to figure this out, right? Give it a try. (Hint: look at the first sentence)
