"12% clothing" means to take 12% of "total yearly income of $42,000"
To take 12% of $42,000 simply multiply 42000 by .12 and get $5400.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Since 12% of the total annual income is budgeted for clothing, and the total annual income is $42,000.00, you need to find 12% of (times) $42,000.00
Change the percentage to its decimal eqivalent (12% = 0.12) and multiply this by the $42,000.00
(0.12)($42,000.00) = $5,040.00
