Question 1132919: An oval track is made by enclosing semicircles on each end of a 48 m by 96 m rectangle. Find the area enclosed by the track. Use 3.14 for pi.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! An oval track is made by enclosing semicircles on each end of a 48 m by 96 m rectangle. Find the area enclosed by the track.
-------------
You didn't say which ends have the semicircles.
I'll do it for the 48 m wide ends:
---------
Area of the rectangle = 48*96 sq meters
Area of the 2 semicircles = pi*24^2 sq meters
Add the 2 areas.
==================
Ikelyn's answer makes no sense.
And I quote:
"Area enclosed by the track = 48*96 + pi*(48/2)^2 + pi*(24/2)^2 square meters."
---
But, it's educational to get different "answers" and then figure out which might be correct.
-----------------------
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the length of the oval track is equal to sum of two lengths of the rectangle (each ) and circumference of the circle (you got two semicircles on each end)
assuming that the semicircle is on the end then: radius will be
and the length will be:
=>ans. for the length
the area enclosed by the track will be equal to the area of rectangle plus the area of circle:
