length = 24 cm ----> 24/3 = 8 cubes can be cut out
width = 9 cm ---> 9/3 = 3 cubes can be cut out
height = 7 cm ---> 7/3 = 2 cubes can be cut out (round down)

number of cubes: 8 * 3 * 2 = 48

volume of wood left over = 24 * 9 * 1 = 216 cm^3
