The correct formulation is THIS:

    If the set consists of 7 elements a, b, c, d, e, f, g, how many subsets does it have ?


The answer is   2%5E7 = 128.


HINT.   The general fact is

    If the finite set consists of n elements, then the number of all its subsets is  2%5En.
