Question 36155: ok here is my problem me and my friend michael have the whole problem solved, we would just like to know if our math is correct and if not why isnt it? please help us out we dont quite understand how to do our homework!
Problem::One Leg of a right triangle is 7 yards longer than the other leg. The hypotenuse is 1yard longer than the longer than the longer leg. find the lengths of the sides of the triangle.
our teacher gave us most of the problem and i will provide my work along with this... here it is (x+7)(squared)(x sqaured)= (x+8)(squared)
x(squared)+ x(squared)+49=(x+8)(squared)
2x(squared)+14x(squared)+49= x(squared)+16x+64
-x(squared)-16x-64
x(squared)-2x-15=0
and thats about as far as my teacher helped us on it. i did figure out that the x=5 and when you plug that into the problem and square it that the three answers are hypotenuse= 169yards One leg= 144yards and the other leg = 25yards
so could someone please answer this for me cuz i have a bad grade in math right now and im trying to pull it up, thanks and peace

Question 39405: I'm not sure if I answered this problem right:
The square of the first consecutive integer plus the square of the third consecutive integer equals 486 more than the square of the consecutive integer. find the integers.
Here's my work:

x^2 +x^2 +4X + 4 = 486 + x^2 +2x +1
2x^2 + 4x +4 = 487 + x^2 + 2x
Subtract x^2 + 2x + 487 from each side
x^2 + 2x - 483 = 0
(x+23) (x-21)
x = -23 x=21
