You can put this solution on YOUR website! The average rate of change over an interval is simply the slope of the line segment which connects the endpoints of the interval.
So...
Use the x coordinates of the endpoints (1 and 5) and the function to find the y coordinates of the endpoints.
With the two points, use the slope formula to find the slope. This will be the "average rate of change".
