Use i, the square root of -1
:
w^2 = -225?
w = +/-sqrt%28225%2A-1%29
w = +15i
and
w = -15i
:
You can prove this to yourself on a good a calc:
enter (-15i)^2 = -225
enter (15i)^2 = -225
