Question 193070: Please help me. I do not understand the exponent fully and how to solve and simplify this.
I could use any help in this . Thank you so much!! :)
SR(300x^4)/SR(5x)
does this mean I need to find: the sr of 300 that is multiplied 4 time to get 300?
and 5 is as low of a sr and you can get correct?
i am lost as to where to go after this?
this problem is not from a text book. It is from a homework problem from an online math course wiht University of Pheonix Math 209/Algerbra II
thank again for all your help
Sincerely,
Sherri

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
sqrt%28300x%5E4%29%2Fsqrt%285x%29 Start with the given expression.

sqrt%28%28300x%5E4%29%2F%285x%29%29 Combine the roots.

sqrt%2860x%5E3%29 Divide %28300x%5E4%29%2F%285x%29 to get 60x%5E3

sqrt%284%2A15%2Ax%5E3%29 Factor 60 into 4%2A15

sqrt%284%2A15%2Ax%5E2%2Ax%29 Factor x%5E3 into x%5E2%2Ax

sqrt%284%29%2Asqrt%2815%29%2Asqrt%28x%5E2%29%2Asqrt%28x%29 Break up the square root using the identity sqrt%28A%2AB%29=sqrt%28A%29%2Asqrt%28B%29.

2%2Asqrt%2815%29%2Asqrt%28x%5E2%29%2Asqrt%28x%29 Take the square root of 4 to get 2.

2%2Asqrt%2815%29%2Ax%2Asqrt%28x%29 Take the square root of x%5E2 to get x.

2x%2Asqrt%2815x%29 Rearrange and combine the terms.

Answer:

So sqrt%28300x%5E4%29%2Fsqrt%285x%29 simplifies to 2x%2Asqrt%2815x%29

In other words, sqrt%28300x%5E4%29%2Fsqrt%285x%29=2x%2Asqrt%2815x%29 where x%3E0

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
SR(300x^4)/SR(5x)
All you do with this is simplify it some.
Since they're both square roots, you can divide.
sqrt%28300x%5E4%29%2Fsqrt%285x%29
=sqrt%2860x%5E3%29
Then make what's inside the radical as small as possible. (I don't know why)
=sqrt%284x%5E2%29%2Asqrt%2815x%29
= 2x%2Asqrt%2815x%29
