Question 164389: I need help with this question as soon as possible:
The equation, D=1.2 sqrt h gives the distance, D, in miles that a person can see to the horizon from a height, h, in feet.
1) Solve this equation for h.
2) Longs Peak is 14,255 feet in elevation. How far can you see to the horizon from the top of the peak? Can you see Cheyanne, Wyoming, about 89 miles away?

Thanks so much!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.D=1.2%2Asqrt%28h%29
D%5E2=%281.2%2Asqrt%28h%29%29%5E2
D%5E2=1.44h
h=D%5E2%2F1.44
.
.
.
2.D=1.2%2Asqrt%28h%29
D=1.2%28sqrt%2814255%29%29
D=1.2%28119.39%29
D=143
Since the distance to Cheyenne is less than 143 miles, yes, you can see Cheyenne.
