Question 901592: With these four test scores, 80, 75, 90, 84, 89 what would you need to make on the 6th test to have an average of 86? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
The first thing I notice is that knowing the difference between four and five will probably be a valuable skill for you to develop.
The average is the sum of the values divided by the number of values. So the average multiplied by the number of values must be the sum of the values. In order for 6 test scores to have an average of 86, the sum of the six scores must be equal to 6 times 86. Add up the five scores you already have and subtract from the required sum; the result is the necessary score for the sixth test.
