Question 506016: Suppose the first term of an arithmetic sequence is 3 and the one hundredth term is 795. What is the common difference? Answer by htmentor(1343) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The formula for the nth term of an arithmetic sequence is
a_n = a_1 + (n-1)d where a_1 is the 1st term, d is the common difference
Given: a_1 = 3, a_100 = 795
a_100 = 795 = 3 + (100-1)d
792 = 99d
d = 8
So the common difference is 8.
