You can put any number next and it will be a valid sequence.
The only way to know the "right" answer to ANY question like this is to ask the author of the problem what that answer is; or perhaps you can just ask him the rule he used to create the problem and use the rule to find the next number yourself.
Since there is no way to know the right answer to any problem like this, spending any significant amount of time on it is a waste of time.
