You need to take
the first 8 terms,
and the sum means
to add. Thus, you
should take the first
8 terms, which should
be given, then just add together!

For example, if my
terms are 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1, my
answer would be 8.

This is an AP with d (common difference) = - 4, and the 1st term, or a%5B1%5D+=+1.
Use the formula for the sum of an AP: S%5Bn%5D+=+%28n%2F2%29%282a%5B1%5D+%2B+%28n+-+1%29d%29 to get the sum of the 1st 8 terms. By the way, n = 8
