Question 1014373: give me the area of a quadrilateral with the sides 34,50,,36,48 in sq.yards
Found 2 solutions by addingup, Edwin McCravy: Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1713.94
Several ways to calculate but you do not specify.
Here is Bretschneider's formula:
Area= Sqrt[(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)(s-d)-abcbcos2theta/2]
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20081) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! That answer is wrong. A quadrilateral is not a rigid body,
as is a triangle. Trerefore the area of a quadrilateral
cannot be determined from only the sides.
Here are two quadrilaterals both with sides
34,50,36,48
That quadrilateral has area 1480 sq. yards.
But look at the quadrilateral below. It also has
sides 34,50,36,48.
But its area is only about 291 square yards.
So something else has to be given to determine the area besides
just the 4 sides. Did you leave out something? Like one of its
angles had to be a right angle. Maybe it was drawn in your book
with a 90° angle. If so you can tell me what else was given in
the thank-you note form below and I'll get back to you. BTW, I
do not charge at all because I do this for fun.
