Question 926718: The question asks: the perimeter of the rectangular garden is 1260 feet. if the length is 3 times the width, find the length and width.
so first i tried dividing 1260 by 3 and had 420 after that i was thinking of dividing it by 3 for the width but then when i added them it didnt come up to 1260
so then i tried cutting it in half n dividing that by 3 .... but yeah so then i googled how to solve the problem and so i found this place algebra.com yay
thats about it i guess thank you helping

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +w+ = the width
+3w+ = the length
Let +P+ = the perimeter
+P+=+2w+%2B+2%2A%28+3w+%29+
+P+=+2w+%2B+6w+
+P+=+8w+
and
+P+=+1260+
+1260+=+8w+
+w+=+157.5+
and
+3w+=+472.5+
-----------------
The garden is 157.5 x 472.5
check:
+P+=+2w+%2B+2%2A%28+3w+%29+
+P+=+2%2A157.5+%2B+2%2A472.5+
+P+=+315+%2B+945+
+P+=+1260+
OK
