Finf the length of each side of the rectangle so that it has a perimeter of 50. One side is 2x-5 and one side is x. Found 2 solutions by Earlsdon, ptaylor:Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Start with the formula for the perimeter of a rectangle: where, L = length, W = width, and P = 50.
You are given that one side (let this side be L) is 2x-5 and the other side (let this side be W) is x. Substitute these for L and W into the formula and solve for x. Add 10 to both sides. Divide both sides by 6.
So the lengths of the sides of the rectangle are:
Length = 2x-5 = 2(10)-5 = 20-5 = 15
Width = x = 10
Perimeter(P) equals two times the Length(L) plus two times the Width(W), or:
P=2L+2W Now we are told that:
50=2(2x-5)+2(x) get rid of parens
50=4x-10+2x add 10 to both sides
50+10=4x-10+10+2x collect like terms
60=6x divide both sides by 6
x=10-----------------width
2x-5=2*10-5=15------------------length
CK
50=2(15)+2(10)
50=30+20
50=50
