In a square, all the sides are equal, so the perimeter is basically 4 times a side. That being said:

P = 4L
52 = 4L
%2852%29%2F%284%29 = %284L%29%2F%284%29
L = 13 cm

Area = L * L
= 13 cm * 13 cm
= 169 square centimeters
