You can put this solution on YOUR website!
w= the width of the rectangle, in inches
w%2B4= the length of the rectangle, in inches
For a rectangle,
perimeter=length%2Bwidth%2Blength%2Bwidth,
or perimeter=2length%2B2width
or perimeter=2%28length%2Bwidth%29,
so we can calculate it many ways.
I'll pick one, but all ways would lead to the same 4w%2B8 expression.
perimeter=2w%2B2%28w%2B4%29
My first equation would be
2w%2B2%28w%2B4%29=96
2w%2B2w%2B8=96
4w%2B8=96
4w%2B8-8=96-8
4w=88
4w%2F4=88%2F4
w=22
That means that the width is 22 inches, so the length must be 26 inches, because
w%2B4=22%2B4 --> w%2B4=26
So, the area must be
%2822inches%29%2826inches%29=highlight%28572%29squareinches .
