You can put this solution on YOUR website!
p = 10 = 2l + 2w
w = l - 3
...
10 = 2l + 2(l-3)
10 = 2l + 2l - 6
10 = 4l - 6
16 = 4l
highlight_green%28l=4%29ft
w = 4 - 3 = highlight_green%28w=1%29ft
Therefore a = l*w = 4*1 = highlight_green%28a=4ft%5E2%29

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
+P+=+10+
+W+=+L+-+3+
The formula for perimeter is
+P+=+2W+%2B+2L+
+10+=+2W+%2B+2L+
and, by substitution:
+10+=+2%2A%28+L-3+%29+%2B+2L+
+10+=+2L+-+6+%2B+2L+
+4L+=+16+
+L+=+4+
and, since
+W+=+L+-+3+
+W+=+4+-+3+
+W+=+1+
The area is:
+A+=+W%2AL+
+A+=+1%2A4+
+A+=+4+ ft2
