You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"what are the dimensions of a rectangular room with a perimeter of 42 feet if the long side is twice as long as the short side"

x = short side
2x = long side {long side is twice as long as short side}

Perimeter of a rectangle is 2(width) + 2(length)

2x + 2(2x) = 42 {perimeter is 2(width) + 2(length)}
2x + 4x = 42 {multiplied}
6x = 42 {combined like terms}
x = 7 {divided both sides by 6}
2x = 14 {substituted 7, in for x, into 2x}

short side is 7 ft
long side is 14 ft
