Question 460504: The area of a rectagular garden is 162 square meters. The width is 3 metesr longer than one-third of the length. Find the lenth and the width of the garden.
I know Area is L x W; I know W = 1/3 x + 3 ; L = x
(1/3x + 3)(x)= 162
1/3 x2 + 3 x = 162
x2 + 9 x - 486 = 0
(X+27)(X-18) = 0
x = -27 x = 18
1/3 (18) + 3 (18)
6 + 54 = 162 (not true)
