the length exceeds the width by 32 inches

Let x and (x+32in) represent the width and length respectively

 104in = 2(x+32in) + 2x

 104in = 2x +64in + 2x

 40in = 4x

  10in = x, the width.  the length is 42in  (10in+32in)

 84in + 20in = 104in
