Question 397149: You have a rectangle with length of 9 ft. and width of 7 ft. You then have a similar rectangle with a perimeter of 260 ft. What is the length and width of the similar rectangle.
I believe if you multiply 7 and 9 by 8.125 you would get a length of 73.125 and a width of 56.875. Not sure if this is right, and even if it is I went through number by number until I got numbers that worked. Very time consuming and I'm looking for the method or formula that reaches the correct answer. Thanks. Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You have a rectangle with length of 9 ft. and width of 7 ft.
You then have a similar rectangle with a perimeter of 260 ft. What is the length and width of the similar rectangle.
:
You have the right multiplier 8.125, and obtained the right dimensions
:
An easy way to find that: Find the perimeter of the original rectangle; 32 ft
260/32 = 8.125 is the multiplier
:
If you want to make it an algebra exercise; let x = the multiplier
2(9x)+ 2(7x) = 260
You can solve this and find it that way.
