Let x AND 3x represent the width and length respecively
Applying the Pythagorean theorem
x^2 + (3x)^2 = 50cm
x^2 + 9x^2 = 50
10x^2 = 50
x^2 = 5 , the width of the rectangle
You can put this solution on YOUR website! a rectangle has a length that is three times its width. the diagonal of the rectangle is 50cm. find the width of the rectangle
..
width = x
length = 3x
diagonal D = 50
...
By Pythagoras theorem
D^2= x^2+(3x)^2
D^2=x^2+9x^2
D^2=10x^2
50^2= 10x^2
2500/10= x^2
250 = x^2
x= 15.8 cm the width
