You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The length of a rectangle is twice its width.
The perimeter is 48 inches.
Find the dimensions of the rectangle.
The perimeter of a rectangle is the distance around the rectangle.
The rectangle has 2 short sides, which will be labeled with w, for width.
It also has 2 longer sides, which will be labeled with l, for the length.
The Perimeter around the object is therefore 2l + 2w
P= 2l + 2w.
If the width=x, then length= 2x.
Remember that the width= x inches

P = 2l + 2w
48 = 2l +2w
length= 2x inches
P=2l + 2w
P= 2(2x) + 2(x)
48 = 4x + 2x; simplifying, you obtain
48 = 6x; solving for x, you obtain
8 = x
or, x = 8
w = x = 8 inches
l = 2x = 2(8 inches) = 16 inches.
