Question 356353: Given rectangle WXYZ, diagonal WY=x-2 and diagonal XZ= sqrt (x). Then find x and the length of the diagonals of Rectangle WXYZ.
Also, when i tried to work out i looked at using the quadratic formula -b+%2B+or+-+sqrt+%28b%5E2+-4ac%29over+2a could that maybe work, if so how?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi,
*Note: the two diagonals for the rectangle have equal lengths.
questions states
+%28x-2%29+=+sqrt%28x%29
squaring both sides
+%28x-2%29%5E2+=+x
(x-2)(x-2)= x
simplify and solve
x%5E2+-+4x+%2B+4+=+x
x%5E2+-+5x+%2B+4+=+o
(x-4)(x-1) = 0
x = 4
x = 1
