Question 340367: If length is made 100 feet longer, by how many square feet will the area be increased?
area = Length (x) x width (y)
area = x x y, area = xy
area = (x + 100) x y = xy + 100
area is increased by 100
am I correct?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Assume a rectanglular shape
We know that the largest rectabgle area for a given perimeter is a square.
Area+=+x+%2A+y
AreaSquare+=+x%5E2
Add in 100 more feet of perimeter.
100/4 means each side of the square is now 25 feet longer than before.
NewAreaSquare+=+%28x%2B25%29%5E2
NewArea+=+x%5E2+%2B+50x+%2B+625
Difference is then 50x%2B625
