You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The length of a rectangle is 4cm longer than the width If the perimeter is 20cm, what is the area of the rectangle

Step 1. Let w be the width.

Step 2. Let w+4 be the length

Step 3. Perimeter P means adding up all 4 sides of the rectangle or P=w%2Bw%2Bw%2B4%2Bw%2B4=4w%2B8.

Step 4. Solving yields the following steps.

P=4w%2B8=20

Subtract 8 from both sides of equation

4w%2B8-8=20-8

4w=12

Divide 4 to both sides of the equation

4w%2F4=12

w=3 and w%2B4=7

Check P=3+3+7+7=20...which is true statement.

Step 5. Then, area = width * length = 3 * 7= 21 square centimeters.

Step 6. ANSWER: The area is 21 square centimeters.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
