how do find the perimeter of a rectangle that has a lenth of 3 ft 9in and a width of 3ft 4in? --> 45 inches by 40 inches
The perimeter is 2*length + 2*width
p = 2*45 + 2*40
p = 90 + 80
p = 170 inches
p = 14' 2"
And people complain about metric.

Edwin's solution:
It is not necessary to change everything to
inches first as Alan did.

How do I find the perimeter of a rectangle that has a lenth of 3 ft 9in and a width of 3ft 4in?

Perimeter means "the sum of all four sides".
So we add up all four sides:

LEFT SIDE   =  3 ft  4 in
TOP SIDE    =  3 ft  9 in
RIGHT SIDE  =  3 ft  4 in
BOTTOM SIDE =  3 ft  9 in
TOTAL       = 12 ft 26 in

Now change only the 26 in to 2 ft 2 in

then 12 ft 26 in becomes

     12 ft + 2 ft 2 in which becomes

     14 ft 2 in.
