Question 165047: If the area of square region having sides of length 6cm is equal to the area of a rectangular region having width 2.5 cms, then the length of the rectangle, in cms is ??????? Answer by tutorcecilia(2152) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The formula for the area of a rectangle and a square is: Area = (length)(width)
So, Area (square) = (6cm)(6cm)=36cm because all of the sides of a square are equal.
.
Since the areas are equal, than:
A(rectangle)=lw
36cm=(2.5)(length)
Solving for "length", divide both sides by 2.5cm
36/2.5=length
14.4cm=length
Checking: A(rectangle) = (14.4)(2.5)=36cm
