You can put this solution on YOUR website!

if the length of a rectangle is 4cm less than its width, we have
L=W-4....eq.1
if its area is 252cm%5E2, we have
L%2AW=252.....substitute L from eq.1
%28W-4%29%2AW=252
W%5E2-4W=252
W%5E2-4W-252=0%7D%7D%0D%0A%0D%0A%7B%7B%7B%28W+-+18%29+%28W+%2B+14%29+=+0
=>take only positive solution W=18
L=18-4....eq.1
L=14

the dimensions of the rectangle are: 14 by 18

The length of a rectangle is 4 centimeters less than its width. What are the dimensions of the rectangle if its area is 252 square centimeters
I need to find:
length of rectangle
width of rectangle
=======================
Find a pair of factors of 252 that differ by 4.
Since the difference is 4 and the product is an even number, both factors are even numbers.
--------
Or,
You can make a quadratic equation, then to factor it, you find a pair of factors of 252 that differ by 4.
===============
If area is some other value, eg, 256 or 299 sq cms, then you have to use a quadratic equation.
