.

Let x be the side length of the square piece of paper.

Then the folded piece of paper has the side lengths x , x/2, x and x/2, so its perimeter is

    x + x%2F2 + x + x%2F2 = 34.5,

    3x               = 34.5,

     x               = 34.5/3 = 11.5 cm.    ANSWER

Solved.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

if the side of square is a, and a square piece of paper is folded in half to make a rectangle, that rectangle will have sides a and a%2F2
if the perimeter of the rectangle is 34.5cm, then
2%28a%2Ba%2F2%29=34.5cm
2%283a%2F2%29=34.5cm
3a=34.5cm,
a=34.5cm%2F3
highlight%28a=11.5cm%29=>the side length of the square piece of paper
check rectangle:
one side is a=11.5cm the other side is a%2F2=11.5cm%2F2=5.75cm

2%28a%2Ba%2F2%29=34.5cm
2%2811.5cm%2B5.75cm%29=34.5cm
2%2817.25cm%29=34.5cm
34.5cm=34.5cm which confirms our answer
