Length + width + length + width = 50,

(4x-3) + 8 + (4x-3) + 8 = 50,

8x - 6 = 50 - 8 - 8,

8x = 50 - 8 - 8 + 6 = 40,

x = 40%2F8 = 5.


Answer.  x = 5 cm.
