I understood the break down, i'm just not sure where the extra 10 came from

Perimeter 2L 2W
P=2*20+2*24
p=40+48
p= should it be 88 and 98

The correct answer is 88 yards, of course.
But I see another deficiency.
You correctly calculated the dimensions as 20 yards and 24 yards.
But the problem INCORRECTLY calls 24 yards as the width.
If dimensions are 20 and 24 yards, then 24 is THE LENGTH and 20 yards is THE WIDTH, according to common use of these terms.
